I love my dear sweet friend, allioutlaw, but I must disagree with this. I’ve noticed the posts going around about “earning” your tattoos or body modifications…seriously?! Give me a break.

As far as I know, none of us are tribal warriors or anything of the sort. I mean, it is 2012! Tattoos are becoming more and more acceptable and dare I say even more appreciated in our modern society. Shame on those of you who are heavily modified and judging other people for CHOOSING to get tattoos, dermals, piercings, implants, etc. I am always so perturbed by people that are heavily modified passing judgement on other people. Are you not being constantly judged, sometimes negatively? It doesn’t feel so great, does it? Well, here you are doing it to other people. Good for you, you’re keeping the cycle of hate and negativity going. A lot of you are claiming that “earning” your tattoos is the “traditional” way to get tattooed? I’d say that every time I sit for a period of time, enduring the pain  of a tattoo, that counts as me fucking earning my tattoo. I’m also baffled by the fact that the person that posted this goes by “Free Mind Free Body”! How can you make such a claim but then set standards for it??? AND I’m a bit amused by the fact that this “free bodied” person brings up money. You say you and your husband own a shop? How do you pay your bills? Because if everyone is coming in there and “earning” their modifications instead of paying for them, I don’t imagine your shop will be open much longer. I have been in plenty of shops where tattoo artists refuse neck, face, and hand tattoos to 18 year olds because they don’t have a career yet. The tattoo artists don’t want to be the reason that this kid didn’t get a job. I think agreeing with this “earning” of the tattoos is silly. It’s like the stupid attitude plenty of us probably had in middle school when we were the outsiders or the rebels and one of the “preppy” kids would start dressing like you, hanging out with all of your friends, and listening to the same music you did. Like, it’s “your” thing and nobody elses. Stupid. We’re all adults now. I’m going to keep tattooing my body by PAYING someone else to do so, because my body is truly free and it’s truly mine. Open your minds, people. Don’t buy into this “traditional” tattoo caste system. It’s bull shit.
